Anonymize a chat (Slack, Teams) before AI

6 p.m. The Slack thread is forty messages deep, your manager wants a recap by tomorrow, and the reflex kicks in on its own: select all, paste into ChatGPT, "summarize this and pull out the decisions." Except. That copy-paste leaves with the first names of the whole team, the client you were discussing, an email someone dropped in to save time, an offhand remark about a sensitive matter. Just text? Hardly. A conversation thread is a small database of people in disguise, and every line adds one more name. The right move takes one step, before you paste: pseudonymize the thread.

One thread, ten identities

Participants, the named client and the email become stable pseudonyms. The AI summarizes the thread and pulls out decisions without ever seeing a real name.

Summarize without exposing the participants

A conversation files nothing. Personal information never lands in neat, labeled fields: it shows up as you go, exactly where you don't expect it. The first name of whoever is typing. The "can you ping Sophie?" buried in a sentence. The client mentioned because you're discussing their case, the email pasted in to save a step, sometimes a phone number or an amount. All of it needs to become pseudonyms. And the rest, the part that actually matters for your recap, the topic, the arguments, the decision made, stays intact and perfectly readable to the AI.

Pseudonymize, then re-identify locally

The principle is simple. You replace each name, client and email with a stable pseudonym, so that [PERSON_1] stays [PERSON_1] from one end of the thread to the other, never blurring into another participant. The AI works on that neutral version. Then you re-identify the result locally, on your own machine. The recap you get back names real colleagues and real clients, while the AI service never saw a single name. Slack, Teams, a customer support channel: the move is the same.

Safe-Doc handles it. It masks the thread before the AI, processes it in the European Union, then purges it, all with no third-party AI ever touching your data. Want the full picture at work? It's in the ChatGPT and GDPR at work guide.

Summarize your threads without burning anyone. Pseudonymize the conversation. Let the AI write the recap, then re-identify the result locally, on your own machine.
